Share your home, shape their future with Foster North East
The number of children entering our care system is rising across our region. At the same time, fewer people are choosing to make foster care part of their lives. Our ambition is to grow the number of fostering households that can make a difference to the vulnerable children and young people in need in our communities. This follows the strategy outlined in 'Stable Homes, Built on Love', the Government's response to the Independent Review of Children's Social Care, which recognised the urgent need to change the way local authorities recruit and retain foster carers.
We need foster carers from all walks of life who can offer a safe, stable family environment for babies, children, young people and teenagers in our region. We also need carers for children and young people from ethnic minority groups, brother and sister groups and for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or additional needs.
Your home could be the right home, at the right time
Whether you can commit to long-term fostering or welcoming a child into your home for shorter periods through emergency, short-term fostering or short break care, you could provide support and care when it's needed most.
We're here to answer questions, signpost you to important information and help you make an informed choice about how you can make fostering work for you.
Our team will work alongside the local authority where you live to ensure for every step, from your initial enquiry through to assessment and beyond, you have the information you need, feel supported and know what to expect.
Children and young people need support now
With over 6,000 children currently in care across the North East but just over 1,500 approved foster carers available (33% less than there was a year ago), there is an urgent need to recruit new carers.
